Ever felt like you are losing touch with the youth around you? Like no matter what you do, you and they seem to be on a different planet? As a parent/caregiver or professional working with youth, we can sometimes feel like we aren’t connecting in the way that helps us develop healthy relationships with our youth. At Springboard we

  • Develop customized training in effective intervention methods for youth justice professionals and persons who work with youth
  • Empower persons to utilize the resources at their disposal and recognize how they can build and implement culturally relevant solutions
  • Provide the tools needed to connect with the youth

Services

Customized training

 

Using a collaborative approach, we have a flexible approach and work with you to develop training that best meets the needs of your organization or group.

Currently all of our trainings are being offered virtually. This means that you can participate from the comfort of your home or your organization. Our training is offered locally, regionally or internationally, and can be full day, half day or twilight sessions.

Webinars

 

Our webinars are facilitated by professionals and experts on a variety of relevant topics and are aimed at equipping and educating persons who interact with youth both personally and professionally. Webinars are usually between 1-3 hours and prices will vary based on various factors including duration, content and materials required.

One-on-one coaching

 

Using a solution focused approach, we help youth, young adults and families navigate through some of the challenges that may be facing. Our sessions are one hour in length and are offered individually or as a family/group.

Youth groups

 

Our small youth groups will target youth aged 11-14 years old and will be all- male/all-female. Groups will address topics relevant to help youth and their parents navigate this critical this development stage and will be activity based and interactive.

About us

Laurel S. Springer is the founder and principal consultant of Springboard. With over 15 years of experience, Laurel has managed and implemented interventions and support services for youth, especially those involved in the youth justice system. Laurel delivers practical and engaging presentations and trainings for a broad range of organizations eager to improve outcomes for their staff and clients, including faith-based, non-profit organizations and governmental organizations. She also works with youth and their families, equipping them with the tools to communicate effectively and build healthy relationships.

Springboard is a Barbados based company that offers training and consultancy services to organizations and professionals who work with youth. We have expertise in the following areas:

  • Youth justice and best practice approaches to working with youth
  • Trauma and trauma informed care
  • Mental health and wellness

 

Our team of professionals possess a unique combination of professional competence and experience in their respective areas of expertise. We value the perspectives of our clients and work collaboratively to co-create solutions that are culturally relevant.

Laurel is a trained social worker who brings her experience and expertise working in various capacities across Barbados and the Caribbean, as well as in Ontario, Canada to deliver training that is culturally relevant and grounded in best practice approaches.

Meet Our Presenter - Semone Kassim-Joseph M.SW., R.S.W

 

Mental Health Social Worker (she/her)  

 

Semone Kassim-Joseph(she/her) has a Bachelor degree and a Master degree in Social Work.  She is registered with and is in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).  She is Canadian born to Indo-Caribbean parents.   She has been a social worker for 17 years, focusing on working with immigrant, refugee and racialized families and youth – with a focus on Caribbean, Indian and African populations.  She practices from anti-oppressive and strength-based perspectives and recognizes race/racism/culture as playing important roles in shaping assessment of and intervention planning to support mental health and wellness.   Her clinical areas of expertise include mental health, trauma and addictions and she is a true advocate for both personal and systemic change.  Her most recent trainings focused on intervening with suicidal youth, working with youth and trauma, using cognitive behavioural therapy to treat mental health and the impacts of racism on youth mental health.   In her free time, Semone enjoys being a wife and mother to her three children, boxing, listening to music and cooking.
